I travel a lot in Pittsburgh, and I'm buying a given iPod FM transmitter for my 30g, but I do not know which brands are better and it will give me the best signal for the entire trip.

I have a 30g Ipod and I also bought Griffin iTrip. I get no static at all, I have stations from Philadelphia / New York / South Jersey that most FM stations are full, but not static)
